Farewell Song

This is a short poem I wrote for the farewell of a colleague. For those who missed it earlier, here is the context.

We've been used to seeing him around, forever
Never thought we'll have to see him leave
Not just days, but years to remember
That it's a thing of past, is hard to believe

From noon to night, him you can catch
Doing the rounds with the dreaded list in hand
His passion for "rightness" is hard to match
In "healthy discussion" with him you can hours spend

A great sense of humor, a deadpan wit
He'll not let you get bored the slightest bit
He has driven a car with open driver's door
We heard no-one can beat him on dance floor
On these things and more, we shall dwell
Long after we've wished him a fond farewell

Good one Sigma! Nicely balanced between 'humour' and 'farewell'!

In almost every place, where we get attached for a long time like school, college, office, there will be someone with whom you will get very closely attached, and imminently you become, as if you are the right hand of that person and when time comes for seperation, it indeed is a very painful moment & it also happened with me quite a few times till now....A well written dedication for your 'ex-manager'.

Oh Sigma, did he ever get to read this lovely poem? If yes, it must have warmed his heart, and probably sad to leave you guys all behind!!

Sigma said...

@Raj: Well, I have good time and bad time with him :-) After all, he was the manager ;-)

@Cuckoo, Ash, LeziB: Thanks!

@Kalyan: That is very true. But in this particular case, though there was an attachement, it was not a close one, and neither a case of being the right-hand man. But there was a feeling of sadness induced by a long association.

@Ginco: Of course he did! I recited this at his farewell party (for which I was asked to write it!) amindst roars of laughters and sentiments!

@BTR: Oh yes, he enjpyed it for sure! And yes it is true that he drove a car (only for a very short distance) with both the front doors open! And it is also true that he danced away to glory on a Helen number, at an office party. :-D But both of these happened in his 'bachpan', well before my time :-D
Thanks for the link. IT is wonderful!!
